First step
« on: May 13, 2009, 08:28:54 AM »

Hello,

I received my Vitamix yesterday and took the first step on the journey to becoming a healthier individual - I had my first green smoothie this morning!

Erm, "ick"......it was not quite what I was expecting and was made following a recipe suggested by my acupuncturist (who also recommended the Vitamix).  I found it to be far too thick and far too sweet.  But then I happened on this place and have been viewing the myriad recipes for green smoothies - so now I am excited to go home and try some of them.

If I discover any new smoothie mixes I will be sure to share!

Thanks to all those who have already shared their favorites!

Welcome Victoria!

How exciting that you have begun your journey to become healthier. "ick" is not the usual response after drinking a green smoothie but that is understandable if it was thick and too sweet. Things that are real sweet are "ick" to me too.

Please do let us know how things go as you try different recipes and feel free to ask any questions along the way.

"ick"?

That's usually what people say if they have never had a green smoothie but then again, I have seen some strange concoctions that were not very balanced. I've had most every recipe on this forum and have enjoyed each one.

Hello John, and thank you!

While there are some things that are sweet which I enjoy, it was something of a shock to my palate when I was expecting something with a bit more bite.  I have since tried quite a few of the recipes here and have found them to be quite wonderful.  I even made a spring pea soup yesterday with fresh peas and mint from my garden.....along with leek, celery, parsley and green bell pepper.

I have also made spicy green smoothies, akin to the V8 juice....I am LOVING my Vitamix

green smoothie junkie, it may not be the usual response, but it was mine....

Thankfully I don't allow an initial foray that produced a less than enthusiastic beginning to deter me and have since discovered how wonderful these things are....I look forward to many more years of enjoyment and discovery... Grin

Victoria, I was saying that that *is* what people usually say if they hadn't had a green smoothie before - funny thing is a lot of people say that without even ever trying one. Good for you for not letting the initial foray deter you - I'm sure you will enjoy your green smoothies.

Hi Victoria,

I am loving my vitamix too! I tried to make a v-8 like green smoothie too but it wasn't very good. How did you make yours?
